Bring your own kayak, paddle board, or canoe for a paddlers meetup on Stone Lake. Every paddler must wear personal flotation device while in the water at all times.
The Library is hosting a paddlers meetup on Stone Lake. Paddling has a surprising number of health benefits. We'll discover a few and then head out for an evening paddle on scenic Stone Lake. When you attend a health and wellness class this summer, not only will you enjoy a community of support, but you will also receive a water bottle or beach ball, and you will be entered in a raffle to win a bike or kayak.
This event is for any level of paddler, but library staff will not be giving instruction or teaching how to use equipment. We will have information available on kayaking groups and safety.
Park along Grangemouth Road in Soilder's Memorial Park to join this Library in the Community event. This event is intended to be a place to enjoy a community space while socially distancing. It is not a class and no instruction will be given about how to kayak. Bring your own kayak, canoe, or paddle board as none will be provided by the library.
**Every paddler must wear a personal flotation device (PFD) while in the water at all times.**
If attending, check the status of this event in case of any changes due to water or weather conditions.
This event is part of the Library's Healthy You series. Did you know that 20% of questions at the Library's Help Desk are related to health and wellness? Because libraries are partners in healthy communities, the La Porte County Public Library offers wellness classes and events that support increased health literacy.
Join us this summer for weekly walking groups and yoga classes and for a kayaking event in August. At Walk with a Doc, you will learn more about different health topics and then take a 20-minute walk with a local doctor or public health educator. The weekly yoga classes are geared towards adults of all ability levels. The kayaking event, in partnership with the Northwest Indiana Paddling Association, connects new and experienced kayakers to an easy and accessible form of exercise.
When you attend a health and wellness class this summer, not only will you enjoy excellent instruction and a community of support, but you will also receive a water bottle or beach ball, and you will be entered in a raffle to win a bike or kayak.
This series is made possible with support by the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte.
